Gentle and Compassionate Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extractions In North Melbourne

At Luxe Dental Care, we understand that the thought of having a tooth extracted can be daunting. Our priority is to ensure that the process is as gentle and comfortable as possible. Whether you need a simple extraction or a more complex surgical procedure, our experienced team is here to provide the highest level of care.

Types of Extractions We Offer

Simple Extractions:

Simple Extractions:

A simple extraction is performed on a tooth that is visible above the gum line and can be easily accessed by our dentist . This procedure is typically quick and straightforward, requiring only local anaesthesia to numb the area around the tooth.

Surgical Extractions:

Surgical Extractions:

Surgical extractions are necessary for teeth that are not easily accessible, such as those that have broken at the gum line or have not fully erupted. This procedure may involve making an incision in the gum to remove the tooth. Surgical extractions are performed with the utmost care to minimise discomfort and promote quick healing.

Wisdom Tooth Removal:

Wisdom Tooth Removal:

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to develop and can often cause problems if they become impacted or do not have enough space to emerge properly. At Luxe Dental Care, we specialise in the safe and effective removal of wisdom teeth, using advanced techniques to ensure a smooth recovery.

When Is an Extraction Necessary?

Severe Tooth Decay or Damage:

When a tooth is severely decayed or damaged beyond repair, an extraction may be the best option to prevent further complications and preserve overall oral health.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth:

Wisdom teeth that are impacted or growing at an angle can cause pain, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth. Removing these teeth can prevent these issues and protect your smile.

Overcrowding or Orthodontic Needs:

In some cases, teeth may need to be extracted to make room for proper alignment during orthodontic treatment. This helps ensure a successful outcome for braces or other orthodontic appliances.

Infection or Risk of Infection:

If a tooth becomes infected and cannot be treated with a root canal or antibiotics, extraction may be necessary to prevent the spread of infection to other parts of the body.

Gum Disease-Related Issues:

Advanced gum disease can loosen teeth and cause them to become unstable. In such cases, extraction may be required to maintain the health of the surrounding teeth and gums.

The Extraction Procedure

At Luxe Dental Care, we approach every extraction with the highest level of care and precision:

Initial Consultation and Assessment:

Before any extraction, our dentist will thoroughly assess your tooth and surrounding tissues. We will discuss the procedure with you in detail and address any concerns you may have.

Anaesthesia and Sedation Options:

To ensure your comfort, we use local anaesthesia to numb the area around the tooth. For more complex extractions or if you are anxious about the procedure, we also offer sedation options to help you relax.

Extraction Process:

During the extraction, our dentist will carefully remove the tooth while minimising any impact on the surrounding bone and tissue. The area will be cleaned, and if necessary, stitches will be placed to promote healing.

Post-Extraction Care

At Luxe Dental Care, we approach every extraction with the highest level of care and precision:

Immediate Aftercare:

We will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for the extraction site. This includes guidance on managing bleeding, avoiding certain foods, and taking prescribed medications.

Managing Pain and Swelling:

It’s normal to experience some pain and swelling after an extraction. We will recommend over-the-counter pain relievers or prescribe medication to help manage discomfort. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your face can also reduce swelling.

Follow-Up Visits and Healing:

It’s important to attend follow-up appointments so we can monitor your healing process. We’ll ensure that the extraction site is healing properly and address any concerns you may have.

At Luxe Dental Care, your comfort is our top priority. We use local anaesthesia to numb the area around the tooth, ensuring that you do not feel pain during the extraction. For those who are anxious or undergoing a more complex extraction, we also offer sedation options to help you relax. While you may feel some pressure during the procedure, you should not feel pain.
Recovery time varies depending on the complexity of the extraction and your individual healing process. Generally, most patients feel back to normal within a few days to a week. Swelling and discomfort are common in the first 24-48 hours, but these symptoms typically subside with proper aftercare. Our team will provide detailed instructions to help you manage your recovery and promote healing.

After a tooth extraction, it’s best to stick to soft foods that won’t irritate the extraction site. Examples include yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and soup. Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods that could disrupt the healing process. It’s also important to stay hydrated, but avoid using a straw, as the suction can dislodge the blood clot and delay healing.

Some bleeding is normal after a tooth extraction, especially within the first few hours. To control bleeding, gently bite down on a gauze pad placed over the extraction site. If the bleeding persists or becomes heavy, replace the gauze and continue to apply pressure. If bleeding continues for several hours or increases, contact Luxe Dental Care immediately for further instructions.

If you’ve only had local anaesthesia, you should be able to drive yourself home after the procedure. However, if you’ve received sedation, such as IV sedation or oral sedatives, you will need someone to drive you home. Sedation can affect your coordination and alertness, so it’s important to have a responsible adult accompany you and stay with you for a few hours after the procedure.
